Programs Highlights
The Emergency Language & Communications Support (ELCS) project was launched by Harmony Revival Network in July 2025 to address one of the most overlooked gaps in humanitarian response “language barriers”. Many crisis-affected communities in North-East Nigeria lack access to life-saving information in their local languages, leaving them more vulnerable to risk, misinformation, and exclusion.

📢 Open Call for Translators
To bridge this gap, HRN issued an open call for volunteer translators across six key languages: Hausa, Kanuri, Fulfulde, Bura, Shuwa Arab, and Marghi. The response was overwhelming, with more than 140 applications received from across the region. After a rigorous selection process, 25 volunteers were chosen to join the first ELCS training.
🎓 Training of Translators
On 30 and 31 July 2025, HRN conducted a 2-day intensive training to prepare the volunteers for humanitarian translation. The training focused on translation standards, confidentiality, safeguarding, and sector-specific terminology across Education, Health, GBV, WASH, and Protection. This first cohort now forms the backbone of our language support service.
🤝 Supporting Partners
On 18 August 2025, ELCS began receiving its first requests from humanitarian partners. We are currently providing free language services such as translation, voice messaging, and community feedback support as a self-funded initiative. These services are enabling NGOs to deliver more inclusive and effective communication to the people who need it most.
🚀 Looking Ahead
ELCS is more than a project; it is a commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind because of language. As we expand, we aim to strengthen partnerships with NGOs, build local translator capacity, and develop sector-wide standards for humanitarian language support.
